A House for Two Artists

Site Plan - A house for a papermaker and a globemaker was designed based on the premise of circulation as a tool to split and join spaces for two resident artists who work in different disciplines.
Upper Levels - The central core of stairs allows one to weave in and out of the other’s workspace, allowing for potential discussions between fellow artists at the shared third level, before they retire to their private room at the top.

The shared central staircase also reflects the shared daily routine: as the day progresses, the artists would ascend the building, from workspaces to recreational areas, and finally rest.

The two-sided nature of the building being defined by the central core wall was an idea extracted from an early creation and later iterated upon through modelmaking.
